An innovatively designed crematorium and landscaping to serve Aylesbury Vale
The proposal is for the erection of a crematorium with associated parking and landscaping to serve the administrative area of Aylesbury Vale. The building has developed as an innovative design form to complement its setting adjacent to the ski slope and lake. The landscaped setting, which offers existing screening, would be further supplemented to ensure that the building blends into the surrounding environment.
The crematorium is designed to conserve energy and to limit the impact of the building and its operations on the immediate surrounds. The sustainable circular building is designed internally to ensure that the building can function in an appropriate manner, with the public elements clearly separated from the business elements and a one way flow of people through the building. The chapel has been designed with curved glazing that faces north east, reducing the amount of glare to the area but allowing for views of the lake through a screen of trees.
Additional light is received from a continuous glazed roof light. The atmosphere created by this unique building would allow for families to grieve in peaceful surroundings, amongst sensitively landscaped gardens. The ultimate aim is to establish a setting for funerals, green places of natural beauty where the bereaved leave with a sense of peace and calm.
