A unique extracare scheme in the heart of Bournville village

Vibrant communal spaces, all situated around a dramatic five storey atrium and a variety of beautiful gardens

Back in 2009, Bournville Architects were appointed to masterplan the redevelopment of the former site of Bournville College, Birmingham. The primary objective was to create a new community that would help meet the changing housing needs of the people of Bournville.

Centered around a new village green, the scheme blends together high quality housing with facilities that provide health services to support the community.

The first part of the masterplan to be delivered was Bournville Gardens, an ExtraCare housing scheme. The development comprises of 212 generously spaced apartments offering a range of accommodation and private amenities within vibrant communal spaces, all situated around a dramatic five storey atrium and a variety of beautiful gardens. The design provides the flexibility to be adapted for future needs.

This is a building designed to foster interaction between all residents in a series of social functions and specially designed spaces, providing a sense of community. Support services are situated in house to deal with the onset of dementia, enabling residents to feel supported as they stay comfortably within their homes.
