A new market for a flourishing fishing port

Brixham, South Devon, is a flourishing fishing port, serving over 100 vessels landing their catches and selling them at the fish market. This project is a key part of the regeneration of the port. It provides a world-class fish market with online auction facilities, a fish restaurant and catering school together with modern fish processing and industry support.

We took the project, originally designed by Kensington Taylor architects, from RIBA stage C onwards having reassessed the brief and the design for our client, Mansell. As part of our service we achieved a BREEAM rating of “very good”. We assessed its performance using BREEAM industrial for the light industrial and workshop accommodation and the bespoke version for the redeveloped fish market. The £17m project now takes pride of place in the regeneration programme promoted by Torbay Development Agency. Brixham continues to be a sustainable fishing port, with the highest value catch in England and world renowned quality.
