A new hospice in a sensitive location overlooking Poole Harbour
Stride Treglown was appointed as design & build architect for this project, which changed and expanded substantially during the design development period. The Lewis-Manning hospice is located in Lilliput, an affluent and picturesque suburb of Poole in Dorset. The scheme provides 23 bedrooms with en-suite facilities, in addition to an extra treatment clinic. These enable the hospice to provide an increased capacity quality of treatment.
In response to the natural features of the site and to compliment the scale and form of the original building, great care has been taken in identifying and selecting appropriate scales, materials and construction techniques for this scheme
The original building was demolished, however, the proposed scheme adopts the same principle of a large house with subservient wings. The two wings frame the main building without obscuring it or the view to the gardens and sea beyond. The combination of vertical timber boarding, render and brickwork complement each other and respond to the woodland nature of the site.
