A regeneration gateway to the city centre

As part of the Kier bid winning team, Port Talbot Parkway Station scheme will be an iconic building that forms a regeneration gateway to the city centre of Port Talbot, which is divided by the rail tracks.

The covered bridge provides pedestrian linkage between the city centre and car parks, creating access for all, and a gateway to West Wales.

Stride Treglown were a fundamental facilitator, working closely with the contractor, engineers, local authority and Network Rail to provide a re-designed solution to create the envisaged building forum in an efficient and deliverable manner.

During the design process we analysed multiple changes, a major one being the alternative cladding proposal which responded to Network Rail’s lifecycle requirements.

This gave flexibility for the structure to be preclad prior to being hoisted into position, easing pressure on the programme. As part of the works, we also delivered a major refurbishment to the existing platform building, which will include a new waiting area, toilets, and staff facilities.
