Specialist processes for the food industry

Seda is a food packaging manufacturer with its origins in Italy. This project took the former General Electric Aircraft Engine Services building on the Hawtin Business Park, Caerphilly and converted it into a food packaging factory with associated storage.

We made extensive changes to the mechanical and electrical installations to accommodate specific specialised manufacturing plant and apparatus. We designed a new utilities building, which houses the solvent inks used in the processes, together with the waste products collected from the manufacturing machinery.

These are transported from within the building at high level by a vacuum and suction system for collection and re-cycling by specialist contractors.

As part of the external works, a new pit-mounted weighbridge was installed. Extensive earthworks and a range of reinforced concrete retaining walls were required to accommodate the new site layout.
