Fitting a contemporary building into a tight location
The Teenage Cancer Trust is an organisation that helps improve the lives of teenagers and young adults with cancer. It provides treatment centres throughout the country, but they do not look or feel like traditional hospitals. This one is slotted into a constrained site at the University of Wales Hospital in Cardiff.
The unit located on stilts so it can oversail several existing buildings and is a very modern insertion, contrasting with its surroundings.
Internally we have created an atmosphere that is unlike a hospital, keeping the design modern, funky and colourful with individual patient entertainment systems, screen-printed walls, ‘snug’ retreats and a private balcony space.
Stride Treglown was engaged by the contractor on this D&B scheme for the detail design and construction phase.
