Stunning rebuild of the largest shopping destination in Cardiff City Centre

Stride Treglown were appointed for this scheme by Bovis Lend Lease, who recognised our ability to manage large, complex, multifaceted schemes and technically delivering them on site. We were responsible for realising the design scheme designed by Benoy.

The project was on site for two years and called for major demolition and rebuild of the largest shopping destination in Cardiff City Centre. One of the key aspects of this job was minimal disruption to the continuing trading hours. Workshops were undertaken to target prefabrication, programming and sequencing so that work could be split into 10 hour activity slots undertaken through the night in the trading areas.

This resulted in the achievement of zero loss of trading hours.

The workshops enabled a commitment to offsite manufacture facilitated through close working relationships with specialist sub-contractors. All aspects of the design were reviewed for buildability issues and value engineering opportunities.

A key feature of the shopping centre is an 18m diameter roof light. Our solution, to form the structure as a single piece and crane into position in a single night, was quicker to install, cheaper and easier to maintain than the original design stage proposal.
