Somerset Medieval Centre Plans Underway

Enamoured with armour, besieged in battle and surrounded by swinging swords. Not the typical scene for preliminary discussions about an architecture commission, but one that Nick Morris, Associate Architect at Stride Treglown, found himself in recently.

As a result, we are now working on initial design concepts for a purpose-built centre of excellence and community hall for the Somerset Medieval Centre (SMC).

The aim of the project is to breathe new life into the traditional crafts and skills which make up the medieval history of Somerset and make them accessible for local, regional and national visitors. The community hall will provide much-needed indoor space for activities and exhibitions, clubs and cultural performances.

The scheme will enable SMC to deliver hand-on workshops with local crafts people, as well as educational resources to students of all ages through links with higher education establishments. They have already successfully presented the concept of the centre as an educational resource with favorable responses.

We are looking forward to discussing more about this interesting project at the first round table session.
