We considered the evolution of how people work and the rapid growth of content non-generators (service companies that don’t own any assets, think Facebook, Air BnB and Uber). We were inspired by their ability to revolutionise a marketplace.
By 2035, automation and robotics will have absorbed the routine aspects of today’s jobs. The children of today will be working in industries that don’t even exist yet.
People are already working with more agility and less-obvious physical boundaries. By 2035, being ‘at work’ will be a state of mind. You can work anywhere, any time. The workforce will consist of more and more gig workers, freelancers, independent workers and solopreneuars.
Our conclusion: it’s not the physical office that’s changing, it’s the nature of work itself.

It’s still a physical place, because effective collaboration happens face-to-face. However, by 2050, 75% of stock will consist of buildings that already exist. The answer isn’t a new building type; it’s the creative use of our existing ones.
