Ben Honey

Associate Technologist

Ben primarily works within the technical stages of a project. He helps to guide contractors through the construction phase, ensuring our buildings comply with relevant legislation and guidance.

He is responsible for coordinating design teams to work within budget and to programme.

What’s your favourite project you’ve worked on to date?

DRF, Plymouth. A specialist laboratory building for Plymouth University. In my opinion the building looked great, but it was inside where all of the real effort was made – function-over-form. Coming from a technical background this was a perfect fit for me.

What is the current big trend in your sector?

Sustainability. The government has set a target for achieving net carbon emissions by 2050. This isn’t soon enough in my opinion, but if we work together anything is possible, right?! We need to make use of the latest technology and liaise with different sectors in order to achieve this common goal – #teamwork.

What advice would you give your 20 year old self?

Be patient. Set goals. If you work hard and stay committed, you will achieve whatever you set out to do. But most of all enjoy the ride.

What’s the greatest invention ever?

My smart watch. I can’t think of anything else I use as much!

What is your proudest moment?

Personally; seeing my kids grow and achieve their little life milestones. Professionally; achieving my chartered membership CIAT.
