What’s your favourite project you’ve worked on to date?

The relocation of the state centre of an international aid agency in Melbourne. I would fly in from Auckland every week, under the AIA radar, to deliver a project that no other practice in Australia was capable of undertaking. I worked out of a mobile office in a 5 star serviced apartment, coordinating the design with a team back in Auckland. We pushed the boundaries of mobile IT and ArchiCAD to exceed our client’s expectations and had a lot of fun at the same time.

An interesting fact that nobody knows about you?

As a child, my family once lived in a small village on an island in the Vava’u Group of Islands of Tongan. We had no power, running water or sanitation. Unfortunately, I still had to go to school and wore a traditional ‘lavalava’ as uniform.

Best networking event you’ve been to?

Any networking event involving great people and mountain bikes is always a top hit with me. However, sailing in the Hauraki Gulf whilst watching The America’s Cup and ‘sampling’ NZ’s finest wines would be a fine alternative!

What’s the greatest invention ever?

It would be a tie between the bicycle and the computer.

Biggest career influence?

I have had some amazingly great bosses over the years and have always appreciated their honest, critical feedback as well as their occasional glowing praise! They have certainly influenced me and I like to think that I have influenced them, and others I have worked with, in some way too.

Where do you see your career taking you?

Innovation is important to me so I will continue to embrace new technologies and processes, always questioning the status quo.
