Modern student living with a nod to Bath’s industrial past

Aquila Court is consciously designed to reflect its industrial context on the outskirts of Bath city centre.

Visible from a number of key views, it was key for the development to sit unobtrusively amongst its neighbours. Variegated brickwork and metal materials are a nod to both the surrounding smith’s shops and the old warehouse that it replaces, while the roof form follows the local 20th Century linearity.

Due to site constraints, we developed two individual buildings to allow for a choice of cluster flat or townhouse living. The latter reintroducing an active street frontage, something that was currently lacking.

Students benefit from shared kitchens with dining spaces, various social spaces, flexible study areas and an on-site gym. The 204 bed scheme is also just a 10 minute walk from the historic centre of Bath.

Stride Treglown’s input was fundamental to delivery of the planning consent. Their local knowledge and experience in purpose built student housing has resulted in a strong commercial and high quality architectural design solution within a sensitive planning context.
