Willmott Dixon were appointed by Adur District Council to design and build a 2,750m2 four storey commercial office on the site of the former Civic Centre Car Park.

While located within the Town Centre boundary and supported by planning policies, local objections were raised during a consultation and stakeholder engagement process managed by Stride Treglown. Issues of design, massing, traffic, air quality and overlooking were raised.

Stride Treglown coordinated a comprehensive full planning application submission: this included a detailed review and suggested editing of numerous multi-disciplinary technical impact assessments to ensure that the development was demonstrated to be policy compliant, fit for purpose and consistent with key development messages.

Managed pre-application discussions and close team working minimised the impact of pre-commencement conditions. We addressed a number of clarifications in the post-submission period and addressed the Planning Committee to summarise the mitigation measures.

This commission was limited to Town Planning Consultancy Services: our Planning team worked closely with HNW Architects who designed and delivered the scheme for Willmott Dixon and the Council.

On behalf of the Willmott Dixon team, I would like to say a special thank you to Stride Treglown, and personally to Graham Stephens and Lauren Cook, for their support on Adur Civic Centre Phase One project.

We have enjoyed working with Graham and Lauren and found them extremely professional and knowledgeable; they have been proactive in developing solutions and ensuring timely response from a large number of consultants.

Stride Treglown have been considerate and responsive to the Consultee’s comments and guided the wider project team in managing potentially very onerous conditions proposed for this scheme. Their performance throughout the pre-application phase and the way they represented the project team at the Committee meeting have been highly praised by our Customer, Adur and Worthing Councils.

We will not hesitate to recommend Stride Treglown to our Customers and Colleagues and I personally look forward to working with them on our future projects.
