A place by the sea

A striking mixed use development nestled amongst the sand dunes of Perranporth Beach.

This exposed site called for a development of the highest quality; durable and resilient enough to withstand the harsh coastal weather. Key to success was maximising the beachfront potential.

The Dunes is a collection of thirty-six 1-4 bedroom apartments and houses along with a new restaurant.

Balconies and terraces look out over unobstructed views of the Atlantic rollers and miles of golden sands. A surfer’s paradise.

The sand dunes inform the language of the buildings. The restaurant, apartment block and beach houses are organic in form and take advantage of the site’s natural levels.

The buildings feature stone, blackened timber, natural timber and sedum to reflect their environment. Whilst render, glass and standing seam give a modern aesthetic.

With every apartment securing a sea view, it’s not surprising that they were all snapped up in 24 hours. Over 2,700 people registered interest in the apartments. Some even queued through the night to buy one.

The popularity of the scheme is proving a catalyst for change in Perranporth. The new ‘Summer House’ restaurant is already very popular. And people are starting to think differently about this town. Tracy Connah has been visiting Perranporth with her family since 1970s:

We always think of Perranporth as this little 60s town which is set in the past. But I think The Dunes shoots it into the future. It brings it Perranporth into the 21st century. It’s absolutely beautiful.
