Stride Treglown to design £32m Cardiff University student accommodation

We have won a £32m project to design approximately 725 new student residences for Cardiff University, to be built by the beginning of the 2020 academic year.

The new accommodation will occupy a site adjacent to the existing Talybont student village, extending it north-westwards. It will clear some existing retail units to create an attractive new entrance to the village. The project will unfold in a collaborative BIM Level 2 environment, capturing data upfront to allow Cardiff University to manage their new asset more accurately, efficiently and safely after completion. The university is also targeting a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating.

As a world top 100 university, Cardiff is focused on providing the very best teaching, learning and student experience. The university is investing £600m in carrying out its biggest campus upgrade for a generation as part of its estates masterplan.

Stride Treglown’s Kieran Lilley, Head of Student Living, said:

“We are truly delighted to be helping Cardiff University to fulfil its ambitious vision for the future. Our in-depth understanding of the market and proven experience of delivering innovative designs for today’s students – in Cardiff and elsewhere in the UK – will produce a top class solution.”

Karen Tanner, Campus Facilities Director at Cardiff University, said:

“We are looking forward to working with Stride Treglown to create residences of the very highest quality to meet our students’ expectations. We are confident we can deliver accommodation that will take our offer to the next level.”

We will be providing architecture, lead designer, principal designer, and BIM coordination services for the duration of the project.
