As a Senior Solutions Analyst, Robert works to influence and improve our company-wide IT strategy. This includes making decisions on all aspects of our setup, from upgrading server equipment to reviewing cyber security.
What is the current big trend in your sector?
Cyber security is always high on the agenda, with world events and advancing technology introducing new challenges and new opportunities to improve our setup. Not all risks can be dealt with through firewalls and configuration changes, and our companywide awareness and social engineering training has shown great improvement in staff identifying threats themselves.
A proud moment?
Our proactive approach to business change and how IT can support this allowed us to introduce a new home working system at the end of 2019. This system proved invaluable at the start of the COVID19 pandemic, as we were able to quickly scale it up and keep our business running.
Pet hate?
Industry buzzwords, particularly the Internet of Things! Using technology as a driver for business change is very much a case of putting the cart before the horse. We try to deliver business value through well thought-out change, and often technology is only a small piece of that puzzle.
What advice would you give your 20 year old self?
Not everyone knows what they want to do with their life at that age, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Interesting fact that nobody knows about you?
I have twice flown a plane, over Bristol and over the Grand Canyon. Sadly, this is quite an expensive hobby so one which I leave to special occasions.
