Schools & Colleges

Seeing schools and colleges through the eyes of young people, and understanding the special role these places play in society, is essential to our designs.

Innovators in net zero carbon school design

We are designing the first public-funded Net Zero Carbon schools as part of the UK Government’s School Rebuilding Programme. These solutions create sustainable, pupil-centred places where wellbeing is top of the agenda.

Unlocking the potential of existing buildings

The reuse of buildings, historic or otherwise, is not only a sustainable choice but, if done right, can bring huge benefits to a school’s character. Getting it right requires a creative and sensitive design solution.

The staff started to move back in today and some of them have been crying with happiness. I wanted to let you know what a difference you have all made to us. If you could see the children’s excitement, it would make you all happy.

Rethinking schools for the urban context

In towns and cities, we’re rethinking traditional school models. High-rise and mixed-use schemes can provide value where land is at a premium.

Enhancing the SEND system with new design thinking

Through new build schools and small-scale interventions, we are helping to resolve the shortfall in Special Education Needs and Disability provision. Our solutions vary from the standardised to the bespoke, recognising that each school operates with a unique ethos.

The Deaf Academy

If buildings were created by people from the Deaf community, how would they be different? We spoke to students and staff about design to support communication, learning, friendship, independence, and equality.

Applying cross-sector experience to create industry-ready learning environments

We cross-pollinate our years of experience in school and college design with lessons learnt from the Universities and Workplace sectors to create collaborative, technology-enabled spaces that ensure students are prepared for Higher Education and the world of work.

Leaders in modern methods of construction

We’re leading the way with offsite manufactured solutions, using panelised and volumetric construction to create schools which are efficient and replicable, but also inspiring and enjoyable to use.

Meet the Team

Ysgol Bae Baglan is an all-through school for Neath Port Talbot. It combines four existing, under-performing schools and transforms them into one leading facility for 1,500 pupils aged 3 to 16.

We spoke to some of its inhabitants to find out about what the school means to them, and how it has changed the local community.
