A new centre at the heart of Lightmoor village

The ExtraCare facility is a core and integral part of the recently completed Village Centre comprising a Primary School, shops, offices and Village Green. The tight village feel is created with the 2 and 3 storey building frontage located very close to the back of footpath, however the scale of a large building is broken down by stepping the rooflines and building frontages to create the impression of a series of houses.

The building forms 3 sides to a central parking and south facing landscaped garden court. A retained mature Oak tree forms a focal point. Features include an external terrace with direct access from the Communal Lounge and Dining areas, meandering paths and seating, raised planting beds, greenhouse, and lawn.

A “fabric first” approach was taken to sustainability with heavy mass construction and substantial insulation. Features include, solar thermal roof panels, LED light fittings, rainwater harvesting, low flow taps, mechanical ventilation with heat recovery, SUDS attenuation system, permeable paving and a Building Management System. Bournville House has achieved BREEAM Excellent accreditation.
