ExtraCare Cottages

Shaking up the stereotype of independent retirement living as part of a wider masterplan.

On behalf of the ExtraCare Charitable Trust and Bournville Village Trust, Stride Treglown designed the independent living cottages, which form the third phase of the College Green Care Village on Bristol Road South.

The 16 two and three bedroom cottages are available for people aged over 55 to buy, with each featuring state-of-the-art technology and light, spacious and airy living spaces.

Designed to meet the needs of older people now and in the future, each cottage features flexible and adaptable layouts that can change over time to suit the occupants requirements. This promotes independence whilst future-proofing care needs.

The new homes will help some of the many older people who want to downsize but can’t because of a lack of suitable housing.

The cottages were shortlisted for Housing Design Awards in 2017.
