A UNESCO World Heritage Site development

The Harvey’s Foundry site was developed as a spur to economic regeneration of the community. As one of ten sites that comprise the UNESCO World Heritage Site (Cornwall and West Devon Mining Landscape) and as a development of regional significance, it was essential that high quality standards were attained in all aspects of the design and delivery of the project.

The scheme provides live-work accommodation for artists, high quality finishes, robust landscape design and conservation of the remaining Foundry buildings for future development.

Components, finishes and materials were of the highest affordable standards so rather than reduce the quality of the individual elements, it was necessary to reduce the extent of the proposals to ensure the heritage and quality of the Foundry site was not compromised. Natural materials were preferred for both their reduced maintenance requirements and their benefits for sustainable design.

We provided full traditional architectural and conservation services from RIBA Stages A-L with support from our in-house planning service.
