Mark Billowes

Associate Technologist & Certified Passivhaus Designer

Mark specialises in Passivhaus and low energy design. Whilst his own projects are predominantly based in the Student Living and Universities sectors, he provides valuable support to all sectors across Stride Treglown in his role as ‘Passivhaus Guardian’.

What’s your favourite project you’ve worked on to date?

My first project as lead Technical was Market Quarter Studios. Unique use of space with an inward facing courtyard and retained 19th century façade. I was in my detailing element. The cherry on the cake was winning the Insider SW Student Accommodation Development of the Year award.

What is the current big trend in your sector?

Slightly bias but Passivhaus. The Student Living sector is rightly leading the way in developing large-scale Passivhaus projects meaning we are producing buildings of the highest quality. It’s a pleasure to be a part of it.

If you weren’t in this career, what would you be?

I enjoyed Construction Law at university and I’m partial to a legal TV drama, so I would like to think I’d make a good lawyer.

What’s the greatest invention ever?

Pigs in blanket. Whoever said ‘this pork needs to be wrapped in more pork’ is a genius.

Best building in your city?

Ashton Gate, up the Bears!
