A highly sustainable, barn shaped BREEAM ‘Excellent’ school for over 350 pupils
Gowerton Primary School brings together Tregwyr Infant and Tregwyr Junior schools in one new facility on the Elba playing fields in Gowerton, Swansea. The school is a new one and a half form entry primary accommodating over 350 pupils, including a 38 place nursery and will also be used by the community out of hours for group and sports activities, capitalising on its location directly adjacent to the existing playing fields.
The design features a simple ‘barn’ structure for the main hall and a generous top-lit heart space housing the schools central library resource spaces. It incorporates a sheltered internal courtyard providing quiet outside space for the early year’s pupils.
The new school is highly sustainable incorporating photovoltaic panels, natural ventilation and achieving BREEAM ‘excellent’ and EPC ‘A’ ratings.
