The AJ100 Award shortlists are in, and it’s an eclectic double bill for Stride Treglown.

We’re shortlisted for Employer of the Year, and The Circular Kitchen is shortlisted for Community Impact.

Whilst the two categories appear very different on the surface, they’re connected by a common theme—meaningful change coming full circle.

A culture of giving back

Here at Stride Treglown, that’s reflected in our full transition to an Employee Ownership Trust model—a journey we began back in 2015. The change gives more agency and voice to all, giving each member of the team tangible influence over our direction of travel.

Supporting the shift, we’ve extended paid maternity and paternity leave for those at the start of family life, as well as introducing initiatives aimed at nurturing new talent, guiding continued development, and recognising the service of those who’ve been with us for more than ten years.

“We’re working towards a culture that’s inclusive right the way up. One where everybody—no matter the stage in their careers, or their lives—has a voice.”

Sean Peacock, Head of HR

A recipe for change

The Circular Kitchen, a pro-bono project for Woolwich Common Community Centre, also represents the culmination of a long journey.

The project began as a week-long work experience initiative with Central Saint Martins, focusing on the circular economy. But, over the past two years, it became so much more.

Today, the finished kitchen stands proud in the gardens at the Woolwich Common Community Centre—a space where locals can come together to share in food and friendship.

Now we can do even more for the local community. We’ll be able to run more sessions and give people of all generations a chance to share recipes, stories and traditions. That’s the beauty of it. It’s not just about food, it’s about connection.”

Jane Downes, Manager of Woolwich Common Community Centre
