We’re immensely proud to see 22 Handyside Street shortlisted for a number of awards this year, including AJ Architecture (Workplace up to 10,000m²) and Schuco Excellence (Commerical Building).
The project – an ambitious and technically challenging three storey office development for Argent (KCCLP) – was beautifully designed by Coffey Architects and delivered by Stride Treglown’s London studio with exceptional attention to detail and technical expertise.
The building’s complex form, high specification in terms of materials, finishes and environmental performance, and location on the edge of the King’s Cross redevelopment site, directly over three live railway tunnels, resulted in many design challenges and engineering constraints.
Critical to the project’s success was the strong partnership between the concept and delivery teams who demonstrated outstanding teamwork, thorough communication, and mutual respect throughout.
“From the first meeting, where we presented the design thinking to Stride Treglown, we realised we were in safe hands. Stride Treglown respected and embraced the design concept and thereafter remained open to continued dialogue to, wherever possible, refine the design, whilst always maintaining an eye on the commercial constraints of the project. The key individuals from both sides worked tirelessly and with good spirits throughout.”
Steve Jones, Project Director – Coffey Architects
From the beginning, Coffey Architects and Stride Treglown maintained an open and receptive approach. The two practices met regularly to discuss all aspects of the design and worked together to ensure sub-contractors kept as close to the original design concept as possible.
A regular exchange of drawings, sketches, physical and BIM models and data – as well as an ‘always open’ line of communication – was vital to resolving the building’s many complexities, most notably the intricate geometry and facade.
“It’s been a brilliant journey from design competition to completion. The design and construction team have done a great job and really pulled together. Many of us have been to the building early in the morning to watch the autumn sunrise reflecting in the façade – it’s one of those truly magical moments and the concept has been absolutely nailed.”

The elegance and quality of the finished building perfectly demonstrates what can be achieved when practices collaborate effectively.
