Andreea, what is the current big trend in your sector?

There are several trends going on in the School’s sector, but the ones that come first to mind are MMC and NZC design, the integration of technology within the school curriculum and inherently the school design, i.e. DT workshops switching from woodwork to robotics, and the creation of flexible, adaptable and sustainable spaces that can accommodate a range of pupil age groups.

If you weren’t in this career, what would you be?

If you would’ve asked 8-year-old me, my answer would have been 100% a veterinarian. If you ask me now, I would still see myself working in a visual domain, working as a graphic designer, branding specialist or UX designer. I’ll keep my love for animals in the form of pets instead.

What advice would you give your 20 year old self?

Take risks and trust yourself. You know what you are doing. And even if you don’t, you’ll learn. Also, have more fun making models in uni and please never stop hand drawing!

Best building in your city?

Since the first time I came to visit Manchester, I have loved the John Ryland’s Library with its late-Victorian, neo-Gothic stone façade and interiors. While it is surrounded by modern, glass and metal facades, it still feels proud and grounded, giving a bit of mystery to the area.

Favourite podcast?

My favourite podcast at the moment is The Mindset Mentor. Short and sweet, motivational and just great to understand how our minds work.
