David Blackburn

Graduate Technologist

As a technologist in the education sector, David loves the positive impact we can have on young people.

He has a passion for buildability and efficient construction, and for turning great designs into great buildings.

If you weren’t in this career, what would you be?

A carpenter, or anything else where I could use my hands — I love problem solving and the satisfaction of completing a project. I’ve fixed machinery, built garden furniture, repointed walls, and I’m the new owner of a wood lathe!

Interesting fact that nobody knows about you?

I used to volunteer at a reptile rescue… you have to keep your concentration when cleaning a 15-foot Burmese Python’s enclosure!

Best building in your city?

Kingsholm Stadium — nowhere beats the atmosphere on a match day.

Favourite podcast?

Off Menu with Ed Gamble and James Acaster.

Where do you see your career taking you?

I’d like to be involved with the development of sustainable construction methods. I think this is becoming more commonplace but being knowledgeable of the design and detailing in Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) could be a good way to have an impact.
