Faye joined Stride Treglown during work experience back in 2008 when she was 17, and has been here ever since.
She completed her architectural education and placements at the Cardiff studio, qualifying in 2019. Now some would say she’s part of the furniture in the Cardiff studio!
What’s your favourite project you’ve worked on?
Do I have to choose just one? Throughout my career at Stride Treglown, I’ve had the pleasure of working on many exciting projects. Before qualifying, I got to work on the multi award-winning Ysgol Bae Baglan scheme. It was such a great way to cut my teeth on a large-scale educational project!
More recently, I’ve been the project architect for the RIBA 2030 operational energy challenge project, Cross Hands East Plot 3 (now known as Parc Gelli Werdd) in Carmarthenshire. We’ve been reimagining the industrial typology, with operational energy being the driver to discover insights for future industrial projects. The industrial sector is renowned for demanding high amounts of energy, and through design, this project seeks to significantly reduce it, benefiting both owners and occupants.
I’m currently very excited to be working on the Coleg Gwent Crosskeys campus masterplan and subsequent phased developments. These projects are focused on redeveloping the whole campus to achieve their operational Net Zero Carbon ambition. Watch this space!
What is the current big trend in your sector?
There’s a welcome shift in mindset toward projects that aim for Net Zero Carbon and significantly reduce their energy demand, driven by the climate emergency.
What advice would you give your 20 year old self?
Keep being positive! You can and will succeed.
If you weren’t in this career, what would you be?
Definitely something creative. It turns out I am bit of a foodie and have a passion for baking when I get a chance – just ask anyone in the Cardiff studio about my Biscoff Truffles.
Where do you see your career taking you?
The sky’s the limit! More than ever, I want to make a positive impact on places and communities through my designs.
