What’s your favourite project you’ve worked on to date?
One of my favourite projects to design was Elmfield School for Deaf Children. I enjoy working closely with clients to shape a brief that highlights their unique vision. For this school, we created a central learning area focused around an open-plan life skills kitchen and art space. We applied DeafSpace principles throughout, ensuring clear sight lines in every area to foster communication and connection. This approach allowed us to create functional, flexible spaces that truly support the needs and growth of the students.
What is the current big trend in your sector?
A major trend in the education sector today is the integration of industry-focused experiences within learning environments. This includes creating adaptable, flexible spaces that support future-proof teaching methods and social learning. There’s also a strong emphasis on incorporating media, AI, and VR into classrooms, enhancing interactive and immersive learning experiences.
If you weren’t in this career, what would you be?
If I weren’t an architect, I’d still be in a creative, people-focused role—perhaps as a florist. It would allow me to blend creativity with the joy of connecting with people.
What advice would you give your 20 year-old self?
I’d tell my 20-year-old self that it’s okay to take on things that feel intimidating—some of my greatest strengths came from saying yes to challenges, like public speaking, even when I was nervous. Always pursue what genuinely excites you, and remember that it’s okay to say no sometimes to focus on what truly matters to you.
