Nick Vail

Architect

Having joined Stride Treglown in 2017, Nick’s role has evolved from assisting on projects to now having crucial defence client knowledge and site-specific experience, regularly representing the practice at all stages of design and delivery.

His current role is to continue delivering these technically challenging projects and helping his colleagues through the figurative minefield to success.

What’s your favourite project you’ve worked on to date?

Working on the site layout for Mosshayne, a residential development in Exeter for Persimmon Homes, felt very comforting. The ordering of houses, their orientations, their garden sizes, ect, gave me a huge sense of satisfaction as the output has the potential to influence thousands of people’s daily activities. Due to be constructed in the 2025, I can only hope the owners find enjoyment in their homes and lives in this new neighbourhood.

What is the current big trend in your sector?

Programme is king! Accurate tracking and projection of all aspects of the project is crucial to our clients and their wider agendas. Being able to track when a milestone is achieved is more valuable than the cost to get there.

If you weren’t in this career, what would you be?

If I hadn’t pursued architecture I would have liked to follow in my grandfather’s footsteps and study Geology. Ancient landscapes and the science behind them are fascinating to me.

What’s the greatest invention ever?

Without a doubt, bicycles!
