Rob believes the first step to a successful scheme is to design places for people, providing a platform for people to create memories in and around the buildings we design.
He has over seven years of experience in designing and delivering residential and mixed-use projects, having been involved in both new-build and refurbishment schemes. During this time, he has forged strong relationships with clients and design teams.
Best book you’ve read?
I enjoy the flourish of reading that occurs every few months, then I become too preoccupied to read for a few more months, and then back to reading again!
My favourite fiction book is ‘The Shining’ by Stephen King, the book is fantastic and much better than the film. If you want a more serious book, then ‘Power of Geography’ by Tim Marshall is a fascinating read about how countries have lost or gained world power based on the geography around them.
Best networking event you’ve been to?
The FFT Western hosted a wine and cheese networking event at KASK Wine in Bedminster, Bristol. The place is great, I would highly recommend — plus an evening eating cheese and drinking wine is always a good end to the day!
What is the current big trend in your sector?
Within the residential sector, apartment typologies are beginning to expand; deck accessed apartments are making a comeback in the UK. I have published an opinion piece on this very topic in fact!
I believe the next direction we should explore is a new standard for creating high quality spaces within homes, grown and developed from the current National Space Standards document to create a more comprehensive standard.
If you weren’t in this career, what would you be?
Chef, maybe on a superyacht, maybe not (a guilty pleasure of mine is watching Below Deck). Before college I had to choose between this or architecture; I chose architecture, but I do still enjoy cooking and baking.
Best city you have been to?
Oslo has it all, you can be in the centre of a busy city, take a short boat journey to a forest on an island and then be back home within 30 minutes. It is a well-connected city with great architecture and public realm, I would recommend it to anyone to visit!
