Kingston Community School
An innovative mixed-use development with primary school and 19 residential apartments
Stride Treglown is working with Vinci to deliver this complex mixed use scheme in Norbiton, Kingston Upon Thames in South London.
The school provides places for 420 pupils. The teaching accommodation is spread over three floors on the western wing of the building and features a rooftop playground and multi-level basement, where the main hall and kitchen is housed.
The residential accommodation is located over the school entrance and admin areas which occupy the ground and first floor of the eastern wing of the building.
The main entrance for the school is physically separate from the entrance to the apartments, however the two functions share bin stores and plant rooms, as well as shared service risers. For safeguarding purposes, there are angled louvres over the residential windows that overlook the playground and school’s outdoor areas.
The site’s location adjacent to a railway line and its proximity to protected trees and two sewers presented many challenges. Cleaning and Maintenance strategies and access strategies had to be carefully considered due the building being so close to the site boundary.
The building features attractive timber fins which clad the group rooms projecting from the façade. There are also areas of projecting brickwork designed to provide interest to the elevations.
The project will be delivered to BIM Level 2. We are using Revit and Navisworks software to facilitate this standard.
