Sainsbury’s, Ashton Gate
Planning approved scheme for largest Sainsbury’s in the southwest
This planning approved scheme was for a 100k ft2 store on stilts located at Ashton Gate, the home of Bristol City Football club, and had it been constructed would have been the largest Sainsbury’s store in the southwest. The proposed store was to replace an existing store approx. 500m down the road that was half the size. The existing store was then to be demolished and replaced by much needed mixed use, residential led scheme.
The proposed site of this huge building was on the edge of a dense residential area and near to a popular shopping street with numerous independent shops along it. Through the planning process, it was necessary to demonstrate to local stakeholders that the proposal would have no more impact on the local area in terms of retail, traffic or other factors than the stadium and existing store that it was replacing.
