As the vaccination programme takes effect and the government continues to ease lockdown measures, we are preparing for a new blended working environment.
We want to combine the best of pre-pandemic working with the current homeworking and virtual practices we’ve been using in lockdown: to find a balance between the need to physically meet each other to form relationships, and the ease and efficiency of virtual working.
Flexibility & Wellbeing
We’re planning to work more flexibly and travel less. It’s a better way of doing things.
We estimate 50% of our working days will be spent in our offices post lockdown. We continue to engage all our teams and invest in our IT infrastructure to enable us to ‘Work Anywhere’.
Travel: Reducing our carbon impact
In the last year we have seen a dramatic reduction in business travel, and as a result, our carbon footprint. Pre-pandemic we travelled a staggering 1,390,000 km per annum for work. Since March 2020 that has reduced by over two thirds. Our aim is to maintain this, so we have set an ambitious 75% target reduction in our carbon emissions generated by travel compared to our pre pandemic levels.
We think we’re not alone in this. And by using new working practices, we’re able to maintain our standard of service and increase our responsiveness.
Virtual site inspections, interactive online workshops and virtual design and project team meetings will all help, and we will be pushing hard to keep these new practices for the future.

Covid-secure premises
We have reviewed the safety of all our premises and have made our offices Covid-secure.
It is still our policy to homework where we can. However, we are using all our offices when safe to do so and at a lower capacity. We will be slowly ramping up their use in line with government stepped announcements.
We’re afraid we still can’t invite you to visit us until the government changes guidance on social distancing. We see this as the last step. We will publish any visitor plans/procedures via this website when we are ready to receive you.
Staying connected
We’re maintaining regular contact with clients and colleagues so our services to you and your projects will continue unaffected.
- If you need to contact us, please use direct dials (DDs) or mobile numbers.
- If you contact any of us who are working flexibly outside conventional working hours or are temporarily furloughed, out of office messaging will identify alternative contacts.
- Along with everyone else, we are conducting our meetings by Zoom, Microsoft Teams, conference calls and other remote means instead of face to face.
We are still carrying out site inspections and site visits where appropriate, carefully following guidance from satisfactory Health & Safety Risk Assessments when on site.
We miss the short catch ups and the informal chats that happen when we get together – but we’re here at the other end of the line. And we’re starting to plan small outdoor networking events. We know how important it is to make time for each other.
