An engineering and digital creative technology facility for 33 new degree courses

Stride Treglown’s £22.8m University of Chichester scheme, provides new engineering and digital creative technology facilities.

The scheme, which is intended to attract between 1,200 to 1,500 students to Bognor, proposes a TV production studio, a green room and a ‘create, design, implement and operate’ centre. Also included have been a machine shop, welding area, fabricating laboratory with a 3D printer and engineering workshops.

The planned centre will enable 33 new degree courses to be offered by the university, including maths, electronic engineering, digital design and computer animation.

The building includes a range of social learning spaces located across every floor of the facility. The opportunity to engage with local businesses has been embraced with co-working facilities integrated within the design allowing students and employers to collaborate on projects together. The interior design proposals include the integration of large television screens to show case student work.

A joint planning application with a circa 300 bed student accommodation scheme, also designed by Stride Treglown, is due to be submitted at the end of February. Work is then planned to start on site in mid-summer ready for the engineering and digital technology park to be finished at the end of 2017, for a hand-over in March 2018.
