Integrated Health and Social Care Centre

Builth Wells
Powys Local Health Board

A two storey health and social care centre designed to meet current and future health challenges

This two storey development is constructed within the grounds of the existing Brynhyfryd Care Home site in Builth Wells and develops an integrated health and social care centre incorporating 12 additional en-suite bedrooms (36 bedrooms in total), GP Practice, Podiatry, dental facilities and a new multi-use community space. Powys County Council and Powys Teaching Health Board have worked together with local stakeholders to develop a new model of health and social care.

Current services that are unable to meet the demands for health and social care will be replaced and existing sites, such as Brynhyfryd Care Home, will be used to implement the new model through development and expansion of the existing facilities.

The design followed a thorough and effective consultation process and after an AEDET review with users, it reflects the aspirations of both building users and members of the local community.

The extension complements the existing building whilst enhancing the façade with subtle material selections. The elevations are domestic in scale and all materials and their proportions helped to achieve a compliant BRE green guide rating and BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating. The development achieved a BREEAM rating of ‘Excellent’, a requirement of the funding agreement with the Welsh Government. The introduction of features such as photo voltaic (PVs) and biomass boilers ensures that the building meet the highest standards of sustainability and achieves value for money.
