Stride Treglown Cardiff wins best architectural firm for third year running

We’re very proud to have won Architectural Firm of the Year for the third time running at last night’s Insider Wales Property Awards 2021. It’s an honour to be selected from such a strong shortlist year after year.

Director, Pierre Wassenaar and Regional Director, Simon Trew collected the award at the buzzing evening in Cardiff City Hall. Immediately after the win, Pierre commented:

This award underlines the strength of the culture that everyone in the Cardiff office has built over the last few years. I couldn’t be prouder of how the team has evolved as a unit, and developed strategies to support each other both technically and at a personal level over this difficult COVID period.

The last 12 months have been challenging for all of us and we’re proud of our Cardiff team for remaining resilient, connected and determined to deliver for our client base throughout the course of the pandemic. This is for them.

We’ve had an office in Wales for 25 years. Our Cardiff studio is a 35 strong multi-disciplinary team of architects, technologists, town planners, graphic designers, landscape architects and digital design gurus.

With a public sector focus, and growing private sector client base, the team balances design excellence with a pragmatic approach to scheme delivery across Healthcare, Residential, Education, and Technology & Innovation sectors.

This year, the studio has been responsible for delivering a series of notable projects including Abacws Maths and Computational Sciences, Cardiff Royal Infirmary Chapel Library & Coffee Shop, as well as several fast-track and technically complex COVID facilities across the UK.

Abacws, designed in collaboration with Adjaye Associates, in particular, is a landmark scheme for Cardiff and for Cardiff University. The building is a central part of Cardiff’s biggest campus upgrade for a generation. This is an exemplar project which demonstrates how design collaboration between globally and regionally acclaimed architectural practices can add cumulative value for clients wanting to deliver major projects.

Looking ahead, Simon Trew said:

We have a talented and creative team in Cardiff and it’s great to see their hard work recognised. We’re thrilled with the award and look forward to building on our success with all the great new design work we have on the drawing board.

This award hattrick adds to an already strong year for our practice which has seen us achieve B Corp® certification, become a carbon neutral business (with our self-built Cardiff base pulling its weight with a green roof, biomass heating and photovoltaic panels), and launch national sustainability and placemaking initiatives; Climate Action Relay and Big Ideas for Southampton.
