Matthew Parkes named Chair of RIBA Plymouth

Associate Architect, Matthew Parkes has recently accepted the role of Chair of the Plymouth branch of the RIBA.

He takes over from Sarah Lee, Associate Architect, and Nick Morris, Senior Associate, who jointly held the position for four years.

Matthew’s appointment provides a great opportunity for Stride Treglown to continue to foster close relationships within the city through events, activities and engagement with key stakeholders at a local level.

The Plymouth branch covers south west Devon, with some 250 members to represent, but is looking to grow the number of members involved in the branch.

Matthew commented:

I am looking forward to this new role, coming at an exciting and challenging time for all built environment professionals and our institutions. I hope to build upon the excellent work of Sarah and Nick with the intention being to reach out to our wider membership group across the wider Devon region.

We will be holding a Climate Emergency series of webinars across the year, kicking off with the RIBA SW Annual Lecture by Peter Clegg at the University of Plymouth in November. We hope that this inspiring series of lectures, along with continued and increased collaboration with our Cornwall and Exeter RIBA Branch colleagues, will result in an increased active membership.

Matthew will be chairing his first Plymouth Branch meeting on 21st October. A representative from Plymouth City Council will be there to talk about the exciting Resurgam Programme which aims to kick start a new era of sustainable growth in Plymouth and the surrounding areas following the impact of Covid-19.

Matt’s looking to foster new relationships within Plymouth and the wider South West region – get in touch to say hello.
