College Green Care Village
A ‘once in a generation’ opportunity to develop a high-quality, 21st century care community to continue the legacy of Bournville Village.
The building of a Care Village on the old Bournville College site was a hugely ambitious project. It provided a “once in a generation” opportunity to achieve something quite special in the heart of the Bournville Estate that was in line with the aspirations of an aging population.
Our proposals responded to a range of needs from the relatively active and independent older people through to those who need specialist care and support. This combination of accommodation looked to set new standards for Birmingham and beyond.
The masterplan site is approximately 9.28 acres (3.75 hectares) in size. Bournville Architects, in conjunction with Bournville Village Trust, looked at ways in which the sites potential could be enhanced to create a holistic development. Such an approach has resulted in the Care Village with four key components:
- ExtraCare facility (Joint venture between the ECT and BVT)
- Bourne View Nursing and Dementia Care Home
- Independent Living Cottages
- Health and Wellbeing Centre
The four key components are set within a new landscape environment incorporating a village green, continuing the Bournville tradition of integrating high-quality hard and soft landscaping elements into its developments.
